What is NetWellness?
NetWellness is a consumer health information website staffed by experts from The Ohio State University, Case Western Reserve University, and the University of Cincinnati. Having been in operation for 15 years, NetWellness provides over 50,000 pages of substantial medical health information created and evaluated by over 500 medical and health professionals. This site has a tremendous impact in Ohio and the nation, as it recieves over 12 million visitors each year. This is an extremely valuable online tool for the COEC to reach it’s target audiences locally, regionally, and nationally.
The COEC has prepared fact sheets on lead, manganese, mercury, arsenic, polycuclic aromatic hydrocarbon exposures, and polybrominated diphenyl ethers. Future fact sheet topics include cell phones, electromagnetic radiation, plastics, air quality and pollution, asthma, cardiovascular disease, and obesity. These technical sheets are reviewed by CEG experts in toxicology, exposure, and epidemiology for accuracy, to make sure that the science will translate well for community members. The COEC matches CEG experts with the technical sheets and works with NetWellness staff to find CEG experts to match the needs of the community, as assessed by questions submitted.
