Jennifer Ruschman,
ScM, CGC
Genetic
Counselor, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center
Ms. Ruschman is clinical
manager for the Division of Human Genetics at Cincinnati
Children’s Hospital Medical Center. She has provided
clinical genetic counseling services for over six years,
and has coordinated numerous educational activities for
lay persons and health care professionals. She is a
founding member of the Ohio Department of Health Cancer
Genetics Workgroup, and currently serves as a
co-investigator for the Community Outreach and
Translation Core of the Cincinnati BCERC
Lisa A. DeRoo, PhD, MPH
Staff
Scientist, Epidemiology Branch, National Institute of
Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS)
Dr.
DeRoo is a co-investigator and epidemiologist for The
Sister Study, the only long-term study of women ages
35-74 whose sister had breast cancer. This national
study of 50,000 women is examining how environmental and
genetic factors affect breast cancer risk. Dr. DeRoo
earned her MPH in International Health from Emory
University, and her PhD in Epidemiology from the
University of Washington School of Public Health and
Community Medicine. Her doctoral research focused on
cigarette smoking during pregnancy and the risk of
breast cancer.
Deborah Clegg, MBA, PhD
Assistant
Professor, University of Texas Southwestern Medical
Center
Dr.
Clegg holds a PhD in Nutrition from the University of
Georgia, and is a registered dietician with the American
Dietetic Association. She joined the Touchstone Diabetes
Center at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical
Center earlier this year, after having served as a
post-doctoral fellow from 2000-2003 and assistant
professor from 2003-2008 at the University of Cincinnati
Obesity Research Center. She continues to serve as
co-principal investigator of the Project One biology
studies for the Cincinnati BCERC, which are examining
the effects of various dietary fatty acids on mammary
development and carcinogenesis.
Frank Biro, MD
Professor, Department of Pediatrics, Cincinnati
Children’s Hospital Medical Center
Dr.
Biro is the Director of Adolescent Medicine at
Cincinnati Children’s and an expert in the field of
puberty. A graduate of Harvard Medical School, he
completed a combined residency in Internal Medicine and
Pediatrics at the University of Rochester, and a
fellowship in Adolescent Medicine at Harvard, before
joining the staff of Cincinnati Children’s in 1984. Dr.
Biro is immediate past president of the North American
Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology (NASPAG).
He is principal investigator of the Growing Up Female
epidemiologic study of the Cincinnati BCERC.
Nancy Evans
Health
Science Consultant, Breast Cancer Fund
A graduate of Washington University in St. Louis,
Ms. Evans is a health science writer and editor with
more than 30 years of experience in health care
publishing. Diagnosed with breast cancer in 1991, she
became a leader in the grassroots breast cancer advocacy
movement, and has written and spoken about breast cancer
issues locally, nationally and internationally. Ms.
Evans developed and edited the first four editions of
State of the Evidence: What is the Connection Between
the Environment and Breast Cancer? for the Breast Cancer
Fund, 2002-2006. With Academy Award and Emmy-winning
film makers Allie Light and Irving Saraf, Ms. Evans has
co-produced several documentary films including Rachel’s
Daughters: Searching for the Causes of Breast Cancer.
She lives in San Francisco.
