Jagjit Yadav

Dr. Yadav’s research program focuses on microbial pathogenesis and toxicogenomic research as related to environmental health. His laboratory is involved in the following major areas of research:

1). Etiology and mechanisms of respiratory pathogenesis and host genetic susceptibility to pulmonary infections, inflammation, and disease. Role of host genetic background and modifiers such as microbiome in susceptibility to acute and chronic infections and inflammation and biomarkers are investigated using mouse models and clinical specimens;

2). Molecular/cellular signaling events and mechanisms underlying pulmonary toxicity due to chemical toxicants. A major focus is to understand mechanisms governing onset and progression of inflammatory and oxidative processes on exposure to immunotoxicants such as mycotoxins and nanoparticles using in vitro and in vivo (rodent) models;

3). Cytochrome P450 research for xenobiotic metabolism/detoxification of environmental carcinogens and toxicants in lower (fungal) and higher (human) eukaryotes. These studies focus on P450 genomics; Functional characterization of orphan P450s involving functional genomics (gene induction and regulation), P450 protein expression, catalytic characterization, and structure-activity relationship analysis; elucidating role of P450 genetic polymorphisms in inter-individual variations to xenobiotic/drug toxicity.
